In the beginning JB had only the present Johor Bahru Hash House Harriers (commonly-known as ‘the JB-Wednesday Hash’) which had its pedigree from the Singapore (Monday Hash). According to records a guy by the name of Lammers founded it based on the Singapore Monday men-only concept in 1968. It was tacitly agreed then that the women-folks were allowed until they gathered enough number to form their own all-ladies chapter. But some girlfriends and mistresses found it too painful to be torn away from their ‘batangs’ for various reasons and so the club has to this day remained mixed.
Sometime in April 1979 a group of men from JBHHH, most notably Chandran Menon (MGR), Jon Yan (Conman) and Chris Chiang (VD) decided that the time has come to form a real ‘Batang’ chapter in JB. A quick meeting was held between the few of them at the then FIAT Show-room (now Courts Mammoth) as MGR was then a manager there. A quick phone-call was made to Lim Seng Bock (Loudspeaker) and an inaugural meeting was called at the Johor Civil Service Club (as it was then called) at the then old premises at Jalan Sungei Chat on 8th February, 1979. Present at that meeting were: MGR, Con Man, Loudspeaker, Chris VD, Steven Yong (Stevie Wonder), Dr. S. Subramaniam (Doc Soob); Subra Chellam (Maharajah); Mahadevan Chellam (Dev); Dr. P. Theenaparan (Gigi), Lim Cheun Ren (LCR); Ng Koh Siong (Kocky), Kalbir Singh (Kalbeer), Woon Tien Tat (Haji) and James Tay (Screwdriver). These guys were the chartered-members who forged TPHHH. It was decided to call the chapter Tanjung Petri as it is the old name for Johor Bahru
